Whether you're building a new Windows PC or just want to make a completely fresh start on your existing computer you will need to perform a clean install of Windows 11, booting off of an install disk and writing the new OS to your storage drive. In order to create a bootable install disk, you will need to get a Windows 11 ISO file that you can write to a USB Flash drive or use as a standalone file if you are installing Windows in a virtual machine.

If you don't want to keep a copy of the latest Windows 11 ISO on your storage drive and just want to have a bootable USB Windows 11 install disk, the easiest way is to use Microsoft's media creation tool. Here's how.

Unless you're just installing Windows 11 onto a virtual machine, you will need to create a bootable Windows 11 install disk from the data in your Windows 11 ISO file. For that, you'll need an empty USB Flash drive that's at least 8GB.

To write or "burn" your ISO file to a USB Flash drive, it's best to use Rufus, a free, third-party utility that will take care of arranges the partitions properly and making the disk bootable. You can also use Rufus to bypass Windows 11's TPM and Secure boot requirements if you choose.

You can create a bootable UEFI flash drive with the Windows install image manually. The procedure described below is suitable for advanced users, is performed from the command line and allows you to fully control (and understand) all the steps in the process of creating a bootable USB flash drive.

After the described procedures, you have a bootable USB flash drive to install Windows on a UEFI computer in the native mode. More detailed procedure of Windows installation on computer with UEFI interface will be considered in one of the next article.

Cocosenor ISOTuner is the free ISO to USB burner that can help you to burn Windows or Linux ISO image to make bootable USB drive. You can easily import the Linux Mint ISO image file to create the bootable USB.

If you have the Windows 10 ISO image on your PC, you can choose to make a Windows 10 bootable USB drive with UEFI or legacy bootloader. 64-bit UEFI PC can only boot 64-bit version of Windows 10, while 32-bit UEFI PC can boot 32-bit OS only. So if you want to install Windows 10 with UEFI mode, you have to download a correct version of Windows 10 ISO image.

But since Windows 8, Windows has added a new feature to create Windows recovery USB. It is becoming a more mainstream approach in Windows 10/11 due to the portability. So nowadays, the "recovery disk" in the broad sense usually includes bootable USB as well. Of course, if you do not have any USB drive or simply do not want it, you can still use CD or DVD to create a system repair disc.

*You may find the Windows bootable USB is not working in some cases. For example, you cannot use a Windows 8 recovery disk to restore Windows 10, nor can you use a recovery drive made by Windows 10 64-bit to boot a 32-bit computer. That is to say, you cannot use a Windows 10 recovery USB created in this way on another computer.

Most modern computers can boot from a USB flash drive and this is the method that we most strongly recommend. When compared to a DVD, bootable USB flash drives are significantly faster for live desktop performance and install time.

"NTLDR is missing" issue is often caused by BIOS trying to load from an external non-bootable drive, such as an external hard disk, pen drive, and CD. So, remove all external accessories and peripherals that you don't need to boot your computer. Some accessories might be hindering with the boot process.

If you can't remove external drives or removing them is not working, you can manually change the boot order from the BIOS/UEFI to ensure that the PC tries to load from an internal bootable hard drive.

Step 3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. Move the bootable HDD drive that contains the NT Loader files, where you have installed your Windows OS to the top of the priority list.

Except for creating WinPE bootable disk, EaseUS partition/disk management software provides more one-stop disk partition features, such as allocate space from D drive to C drive speed up Windows 10, clone disk, merge partitions, create/delete/format partition, wipe data, and disk/partition conversion, migrate OS to smaller SSD, and so on.

Step 1. To create a bootable disk of EaseUS Partition Master, you should prepare a storage media, like a USB drive, flash drive or a CD/DVD disc. Then, correctly connect the drive to your computer.

When the process finishes, you have successfully created an EaseUS Partition Master WinPE bootable disk. Now, you can manage your hard disks and partitions through the bootable drive whenever the computer fails to boot normally.

To turn a standard USB drive into an installation drive, you'll need to use a program called Rufus. It's the same app that Microsoft itself uses in its guide for creating a Windows 10 bootable drive. Visit the company's website to download and install Rufus, which should only take a few seconds. It's a small program.

Alternatively, you can try and use the USB drive as a bootable installation drive. However, this is where things get even more complicated, due to Windows 11 requiring Secure Boot, and the USB drive we just created not being compatible with that feature. I suggest waiting for Microsoft to release an official tool, but if you insist, I found a guide that walks you through the extra steps of making a bootable USB drive that's compatible with secure boot on Tom's Hardware, starting at step 11. 2ff7e9595c
